After contouring, I used my fingers to smudge the same Whipped Dream shades on my eyelids, too — the formula stayed dewy, pigmented, and blendable, and didn’t instantly crease like many liquid eyeshadows I’ve tried. I switched over to the Lip Mousse in shade I’m Melting, and was pleasantly surprised with how smoothly the formula glided on. (“The flat-tip applicator was designed so that the formula would touch the lips and be easily applied evenly without clumping, and the microfiber maximizes the smoothness when it touches the lips,” explains Jeong.)
I built up the pigment in layers for a more opaque finish, but you could just as easily buff out a single application for a subtle stained effect. I decided the look was missing something, so I went rogue and added a little of the dusty mauve lip mousse to the outer thirds of my eyes for some more depth.
I polished off the look with some dewy highlighter, and decided to dub the look the (Soaking) Wet Hot American Summer. Think the golden pinks and peaches typical of warm-weather makeup, but added mauve tones help cool things down for nighttime — like a sunset on the beach, with a moody thunderstorm brewing on the horizon. Peachy shades and deep purples are going to be huge in 2022, making all the shades in both lines definitively on-trend.
New York City-based makeup artist Tommy Napoli says that this color palette is great for mixing and matching, citing one shade of Whipped Dream as a seasonal winner: “I think the darkest of these four (shade Mocha Tarte) will make an amazing eye shadow on almost all skin tones, [ideal for] pairing with a softer coral or pink for a modern makeup look,” he says.
But even more important than color heading into summer is ease, making multi-products and weightless formulas a no-brainer for my summer makeup lineup. “Multi-purpose products are super key for everyday makeup — or anytime, even for a professional— and especially important in the summer when getting out the door and maximizing time enjoying the sunshine is of top priority,” agrees Napoli. “These, in particular, give the look of dewy, fresh, carefree, and casual makeup.”
