Sydney Sweeney appears to have ditched her signature bleach blonde hair. The actor, who you may know as Euphoria‘s Cassie Howard, shared a photo of the new look with her 10 million-plus Instagram followers on March 1. 

In the photo, Sweeney’s hair is obviously much darker than it was during her Euphoria filming days. Her new hair color is also paired with some brow-skimming bangs. But it seems that the actor’s hair transformation wasn’t a choice that she made on a whim. Her succinct caption, “Penny Jo,” reveals the name of her newest role in the upcoming film National Anthem. The film follows the quest to find a rare artifact from the Lakota Native American tribe. Sweeney is set to co-star with singer and About-Face Beauty founder Halsey.

Sweeney’s dirty blonde strands remind us of a shade we expect to be everywhere in 2022: sandy blonde. This color is perfect for those, like Sweeney, who tend to be on the brighter side of blonde because the switch-up is easy to achieve at the salon. “It feels darker and more dimensional than a super bright blonde, but it’s also easy to go back to that super-bright shade when you’re ready,” colorist Felicia Dosso of Nunzio Saviano Salon previously told Allure.
