In her upcoming film The Princess, Joey King transforms into a long-haired badass on a mission. In the trailer, which dropped on June 2, King plays — you guessed it— a fiery-haired princess locked away in a tower after refusing to wed a terrible man. She can be seen kicking ass, literally, as her thick mane of ginger waves cascades all around her.
In real life, The Kissing Booth actor’s brown-highlighted hair tends to fall in loose waves that graze her collarbones. But her signature lob is nowhere in sight in the almost two-minute trailer — instead, it’s replaced by a dramatic, hip-length wig. This copper hair is parted down the middle and braided back when the trailer begins, but that neat hairstyle is short-lived as King’s character has to brawl with two guards. Her wavy hair becomes a tousled, tangled mess as she fights to save her kingdom, and more importantly, her family.

This isn’t the first time she’s tried a completely different hairstyle for an acting role. This hair color and cut transformation is actually fairly tame compared to when she chopped off her hair completely for her role as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in the 2019 mini-series The Act. We have to give this wavy hair our stamp of approval as one of our favorite wigs in film and TV this year.
King certainly fits this royal role with these lengthy red waves — she even looks a little like a live-action version of Merida from Pixar’s Brave. You’ll get to see every inch of of her glorious hair when The Princess officially airs on Hulu on July 1.
