Here at Hype Hair, we focus on ALL THINGS BEAUTY! So much focus is put on our hair that sometimes our skin gets neglected. This month we got to spend time with Olivia Parker, owner of Minkology 101. Olivia is a skincare guru and is best known for her facials, skin peels, and viral extractions. Olivia came to Los Angeles and set up a shop at the Hype Hair Headquarters to service her Los Angeles clients while she was in town. Throughout the day we were able to get a first-hand look at her techniques and get some skin care tips to keep our skin glowing, even during the winter months.

We asked Olivia what made her dive into skincare and why she is so connected to the industry. She told us that helping women overcome their insecurities was the driving force behind her passion. Insecurities exist behind dealing with skin issues and helping women navigate that journey helps restore their confidence. 

Olivia believes that having a consistent at-home skincare routine is another key to combating skin care concerns. At home, she uses her hand-crafted Honey Kiss cleanser ( a must-have!) every morning paired with Dermologica’s daily exfoliant. She wraps up her regimen with her Glow in the Bottle oil topped off with sunscreen. At night she repeats the same process but adds witch hazel as a toner to remove the impurities that become trapped in her pores during the day.  

There are some bad habits that a lot of us have when it comes to our skin and Olivia noted that she also notices it in a lot of her clients. Not being consistent with our skin care regimen, not using sunscreen, and picking at those more than annoying pimples can cause a bad problem to take a turn for the worse. Black women due to our high levels of melanin can damage our skin so easily and cause hyperpigmentation by picking and not using sunscreen daily. Olivia warns against it and encourages the use of a good exfoliant and moisturizer. She also mentioned that extractions should not be done at home and saved for your esthetician during your regular facial!
